Genesia Girls is a registered New Zealand charity focused on promoting female and gender diverse youth towards digital technologies via mentoring opportunities, hackathons, and workshops crafted to empower their future careers. We are youth-founded and youth-led; our events are run by an organising committee made up of girls from ages 14-18 passionate about digital technologies.
We aim for a future where our technology industry thrives from diverse perspectives and uplifts women to achieve their full potential.
With only 29% of New Zealand’s digital technologies workforce being women, we face a large gap in gender diversity. This leads to a less expansive display of perspectives and is not only harmful for young women interested in pursuing these paths, but also leads to worse outcomes for wider audiences.
This community-centred solution connects female and gender diverse youth with the resources they need to thrive in our changing technology sector, as well as provides industry connections and a safe environment to learn. Through our work, we strive to uphold the following values: Manaakitanga, Mātauranga, Kaitiakitanga, and Whanaungatanga, leading to an equitable and productive technology industry for all.
At Genesia Girls, there are many opportunities to learn and get involved in animation, programming, circuitry, 3D rendering, and UI/UX design, and so much more!
